New technologies come out every day. Some fail pitifully while others prosper. It is up to us, the consumers, to figure out which ones are worth our while. But what if it were possible for companies to know what we want and like without us having to tell them?
Emotiv Systems has recently developed a mind-reading headset called the Epoc. The Epoc was created to read faint electrical signals from your brain and transfer them to a PC. It can be used to play games or arrange items on computers without mannually dealing with it. The Epoc uses electroencephalography and neurosensors, which is the same technology used by hospitals to monitor brain activity.
The coolest thing about this product is what it can be used for in the future... the possibilites. People with disabilities can use Epoc to use technology in ways they might have never had the chance to. Companies can eventually use it to monitor people's reaction(s) towards their products. As the technology progresses, the possibilities are endless. Who knows... we may be using Epoc to send information to our cellphones to receive an ad or coupon on, lets say, coffee, after thinking, "I really want some coffee." I may be overly optimistic, but I think this product is REALLY cool!
